The 2015 Flu Season Has Started! Get Vaccinated Today!

The 2015 Flu Season Has Started! Get Vaccinated Today!
GET YOUR FLU SHOT - The flu is serious. A flu shot is your best protection. Yearly vaccination is necessary because the vaccine is adapted to match each year’s expected flu viruses.  Now is the time to be vaccinated. Flu activity has started early this year and the Flu Season is now officially underway. Because it takes the vaccine 10-14 days to provide protection it is important to get the flu vaccine now. Protect yourself, your family, co-workers and our patients.

Mandatory Vaccination or Masking Required: The San Diego County Department of Public Health has mandated that all health care workers be vaccinated for influenza or wear a surgical mask in patient care areas effectiveNovember 1, 2015 through March 31, 2016.

CLUW Launches First National Women’s Health Survey: All Union Women Are Urged to Take A Few Minutes to Answer

CLUW Launches First National Women’s Health Survey: All Union Women Are Urged to Take A Few Minutes to Answer

"As part of its commitment to empower union women, the Coalition of Union Women (CLUW)   provides its members with health information. To assist us in tailoring that information, we created a short survey with one of our Spread the Word campaign partners, HealthyWomen," announces CLUW President Connie Leak.

President Leak explains the survey results will allow HealthyWomen to work with CLUW to provide CLUW members with the health information they want on a regular basis, delivered via the communications format/s they prefer.

The short survey, which is going out via “Survey Monkey,” is called Getting to Know You and Your Health Needs: Audience Survey for Women. You can access it here:

KP Care at Target Stores

KP Care at Target Stores
Kaiser Permanente and Target Stores have reached an agreement to open medical care clinics in Target Stores to provide convenient care for minor medical issues.  This new approach to reaching out to the community is still a pilot and can only be found in certain stores in Southern California, two of which are in San Diego County, one in Vista and the other in Mission Valley San Diego.  The clinics are staffed by members of the unions at KP and in San Diego by Local 30 and UNAC members.

Don’t Sign It! Fair Pay For Hard Work!

Today, the San Diego City Council overrode Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s veto and OFFICIALLY PASSED THE EARNED SICK DAYS AND MINIMUM WAGE ORDINANCE! Their override means that the Earned Sick Leave-Minimum Wage is once again in place to help hardworking San Diegans who struggle to pay the rent and buy groceries.

However, our fight continues, opponents representing a small handful of special interests have announced that they are prepared to spend what it takes to repeal the law. They will be in front of grocery stores and other areas in the city attempting to collect 34,000 signatures to repeal the law.

To push back against this brazen attack against hard working San Diegans we need your help! Council President Todd Gloria, Irwin Jacobs, Mel Katz, Bill Walton and Barbara Bry kicked off the citywide campaign, simply called “Don’t Sign It,” to defeat the referendum against the ordinance.

Today, City Council stood up for 280,000 San Diegans who lack sick leave and nearly 200,000 low-wage workers who work hard every day and can’t afford rent and groceries, now its time to do our part.

Here's what you can do
:

  1. Take the pledge not to sign the anti-sick days anti-minimum wage petitions.
  2. Inform as many people as possible that the earned sick days and minimum wage policy HAS PASSED, and that any signature gathering effort is an attempt to TAKE IT AWAY!! Tell your friends: DON’T SIGN IT!
  3. If you see a signature gatherer, call or text the following hotline: (619) 930 – 3300.
  4. Volunteer.

Click here to take the pledge to protect the Earned Sick Leave-Minimum Wage Ordinance.

Also, please download this “Don’t Sign It” image (right click + save image). Please post it on social media and print it out and hang it for all to see.
