Kaiser Execs Predict Financial Doom & Gloom

We all know that Kaiser has been making record profits — but they opened this bargaining session complaining “hard times” are ahead for the company.

They then presented their economic proposal that demands major cuts from us, including:

• Copay increases to $20;
• More outsourcing and automation of our jobs;
• Lower pay, elimination of pensions, less time off — starting with new hires, then we’d be next.

WE HIT THE BARGAINING TABLE WITH MOMENTUM

We entered bargaining this week with major momentum with members from every local of the coalition rallying to protect our patients and our families in our next contract.

WHAT KAISER WANTS:

Cuts to Our Jobs, Wages and Benefits. Kaiser wants us to agree to a contract with:

• The lowest raises in decades.
• Cuts to our benefits, including doubling our healthcare copays and coming after our retirement benefits.
• Continued outsourcing and automation of our jobs.

As we head back into bargaining for our next national contract this week, Kaiser has announced its highest single-quarter profits ever: $3.2 BILLION.

We, the workers at Kaiser, have played a huge part in building this success. Yet instead of sharing in the success all we see are record company profits, skyrocketing reserves, and growing executive salaries.

Kaiser is looking for cuts that would hurt our families and our patients . . .

More than 300 local union member leaders from across the Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions met from April 17-18 to mark the start of national bargaining with Kaiser Permanente. After over a year of labor tension and coordinated member actions, to say there was excitement in the room would be an understatement. 

The first day of bargaining provided an opportunity for union leaders to come together and discuss overall bargaining strategy, review our goals and expected outcomes, and participate in work groups and bargaining training.
