Local 30 Scholarship Fund Recipients

Congratulations to the recipients of the 2018 OPEIU Local 30 Scholarship Fund & Student Debt Relief Awards. Each award is in the amount of $1,500.00.

Dear Local 30 members, 

As you are aware our National Agreement termination date is September 30, 2018. While the Coalition continues to urge Kaiser to return to the bargaining table and complete a new National Agreement covering our members, until then we will continue to do the work of Partnership in the process. 

Following September 30th, the terms of the current National Agreement remain in effect while we bargain a renewal. Our members will receive a 3% wage increase on October 1, 2018, (or the nearest pay period) and the benefits we enjoy will not immediately change. 

The Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions, including Local 30, continues to meet with Kaiser management to bargain over a new Partnership Agreement, a proposal of management’s intended to redefine the Partnership relationship between labor and management.  Now that some of the unions that were formally Coalition unions have left the Coalition, Kaiser has decided to take a different approach to bargaining a new National Agreement by first requiring unions to sign on to a new Partnership Agreement. We continue to discuss those terms.

Once again, the members of our Scholarship Committee have worked very hard to bring our members this wonderful benefit. If you, or a member of your immediate family is currently attending College or will be this fall or have loans from a recognized student loan provider or debtor organization, and are current in their student loan payments, then this Union benefit is just in time.

Kaiser continues to demand a new Partnership Agreement and is requiring Coalition Unions to sign a new Partnership agreement as a condition of resuming negotiations of a new National Agreement. This “new” Partnership Agreement is completely one-sided. It demands unions and union members waive significant rights, and it gives management the right to vote on expelling unions.

We have met three times with Kaiser leaders over the last few months to reach an agreement. The Coalition has offered a counter proposal that was balanced—offering new rights and responsibilities within the Partnership for both our unions and Kaiser. We also have offered a ‘temporary cease fire’ that would get us back to the table for negotiations while addressing Kaiser’s concerns. Both of these offers have been rejected by Kaiser.
